About Me

FEW WORDS ABOUT

Mr Rahul Jain. MBChB, FRCS, Dip Ortho Engin, FRCS (Tr & Orth)

AND How it all started

I attended Sheffield Medical School, graduating in 1989. Following my house officer posts, I completed the Nottingham Basic Surgical Training Programme at Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital, Nottingham.

After obtaining my FRCS (Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh) in 1995, I undertook 18 months of post-fellowship training at Derby Royal Infirmary before securing a place on the West Midlands Higher Orthopaedic Surgical Training Programme.

During this time, I worked at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton; University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire; Selly Oak Trauma Unit; Worcester Royal Infirmary; and Warwick Hospital, gaining broad and intensive experience in orthopaedic surgery.

After completing my exit examination, FRCS (Tr & Orth), I worked exclusively for two years at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, particularly within the prestigious Arthroplasty and Oncology Units, where I developed advanced expertise in hip and knee replacement surgery, including complex revision procedures.

My training was further enhanced through travelling fellowships to Oxford and Exeter, as well as international fellowships in Toronto, Los Angeles, and Arlington.

In 2003, I was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a specific remit to develop and expand the hip and knee replacement service, including the revision hip programme. I maintained a high-volume surgical practice, performing approximately 700–800 primary joint replacements per year, along with 100–150 revision procedures annually.

I left the NHS in 2017 to focus fully on private practice, where I continue to specialise in hip and knee replacement surgery as well as knee arthroscopy.

Outside of my professional work, I am a devoted husband of over 30 years and a proud father of two. I enjoy golf, classic cars, photography, sailing, and a good glass of red wine.
